Larry Braman Professional Biography:
Larry Braman has broad experience in community development and planning, having worked in these areas for some
30 years. He has been especially interested in putting computer-based tools at the service of non-profit and
municipal agencies involved in neighborhood development.
Mr. Braman has attained significant knowledge of systems design, relational database management and geographic
information systems (GIS), using them to build accessible agency-wide applications for project tracking, area
benefit analysis, feasibility analyses, site finding, and general planning support.
Most recently, he was manager of mapping and data services at the City of Boston’s Department of Neighborhood
Development (DND) where he and his staff provided a variety of information and planning tools for agency staff, other
public agencies and the general public.
Prior to that, he worked in the nonprofit sector as a housing development consultant and as director of development for
the Urban Edge Housing Corporation, a large Boston community development agency.
He has also served on the boards of various local nonprofit organizations, as well as on local and state commissions
and task forces, including the Neighborhood of Affordable Housing, the East Boston Health Center, a city Planning and
Zoning Advisory Committee, the Adaptive Environments Center, and the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board.
Public agencies and other institutions have recognized Mr. Braman’s many achievements, utilizing technology for
the benefit of local communities and organizations.
In 2005 he received a lifetime achievement award for "using data to drive community change" from the Metropolitan Area
Planning Council and the Boston Foundation.
In 1992 Mr. Braman was awarded a fellowship in Advanced Environmental Studies at Harvard University, where he remained
to obtain a master's degree with a focus in geographic information systems.
